Your mindful guide through the college admissions process
I have been a high school counselor for the last 13 years. Back in the mid-2000s (when I was still carrying a Discman around campus), I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington, and no clear direction of what I wanted to do except that I knew I wanted to help people. I applied for an AmeriCorps position as a college counselor at the Lower Price Hill Community School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Through this role, I realized how much I loved helping students of all ages figure out what they wanted to do after they finished their current level of education. I returned to school and graduated with my Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of Cincinnati.
Since then, I have had various roles, but I have provided college counseling in all of them. I have always enjoyed learning more about the college admissions process and optimizing ways to help students. Unfortunately, as a school counselor, I didn’t have the time that I wanted to spend with students on the college admissions process. Due to the high ratio of students to school counselors in Indiana, the highest in the nation, I could not provide individualized counseling to students that I know makes a difference in a student finding the right college fit for them.
I have served as a Director of Counseling, the only school counselor at a rural high school, the college and career counselor at a large suburban school, and most recently, an Empowerment Coach at a best-fit high school for students with barriers to education. I have seen it all and done most things, and I love working with teenagers as they figure out what they want to do after graduating from high school. I also love bringing calmness and demystifying the process for families. I am organized and proactive, and I will guide your family along this path to your student’s authentic one after high school. I am local to the Indianapolis area and well-versed in midwestern schools and schools nationwide.
When I am not working with high school students I enjoy being outside, spending time with my family, and reading.
